Doctors on Riccarton Security Camera Policy

CCTV Security Cameras are installed around the building externally as a crime deterrent (including theft, vandalism and unathourised access) and to ensure the safety and security of our staff, patients and their property.

Footage collected via CCTV is considered personal information and is therefore subject to the Privacy Act. In the event of criminal activity – disclosure of footage will be given to the Police,  as per the Privacy Act principles 10 and 11 exceptions listed below;

  • The use or disclosure is necessary for court or tribunal proceedings.
  • The use or disclosure is necessary to enable a public sector agency to uphold the law (including preventing, detecting, investigating, prosecuting and publishing offenses).
  • The use or disclosure is necessary to prevent or lessen a serious and imminent threat to public health and safety or the life and health of an individual

Footage collected via CCTV will be kept securely for up to 30 days. It will only be viewed if required to investigate an incident or if a security problem is identified, and will only be retained for longer than 30 days if needed for evidential purposes. Footage can only be accessed by authorised staff of Doctors on Riccarton. Please ask to speak to the Practice Manager if you have any concerns.
